Pops' Bodega Bay Travel Guide

Bodega Bay is on the Northern California coast above San Francisco. The name may sound familiar to you as it is the place where Alfred Hitchcock filmed "The Birds". Our family has access to a house there so we decided to spend the weekend there.

Bodega Bay is just over a two hour drive from Sacramento so getting away for the weekend is pretty easy. You also have Napa and Sonoma Counties between Sacramento and Bodega Bay and if you have time why not stop at a winery and pick up some wine. It just happened to be perfect weather this weekend. There was no wind and the temperature was in the 50's. If you want a place to go to and relax then this is your place. You can enjoy the view from the bluffs or take a long walk on the beach. You'll see fishing boats entering and leaving the harbor and boats off shore waiting for the perfect catch. You may also see surfers out catching a wave. In the air you'll hear the distant fog horn, the crashing waves or sea lions.

We enjoyed the view from the house and in the afternoon took a long walk on the beach. Later we went to the harbor to buy some crab meat as it is now in season. Some of it went for crab cocktails and the rest was used to make crab omelets the next morning.

There are also a lot of towns in the area like Occidental, where you can explore and shop for art, antiques, and local crafts.

If you make it to Bodega Bay there are numerous hotels and campgrounds. In the right time of year you can go crabbing or deep sea fishing. Or you can just sit back, grab a bottle of wine and relax.
